Rawalpindi: The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has announced the pardon of 19 individuals convicted for their involvement in the violent protests of May 9, 2023, associated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
According to details provided by ISPR, numerous PTI workers were apprehended during the protests, which resulted in trials being conducted in military courts. Following the proceedings, several individuals were handed various sentences.
Out of the 67 convicts who submitted mercy petitions, 48 cases were forwarded to the Court of Appeals for review. Meanwhile, the sentences of 19 individuals have been pardoned.
The pardoned convicts were primarily those sentenced to two years of imprisonment, most of whom have already served a significant portion of their sentences.
It was clarified that while these individuals will be released, their criminal records will not be expunged, and they will continue to be listed as convicts in official records.
